Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common potentially deadly disease in cats. Early diagnosis and staging are critical to treatment. Cats with HCM are at risk of developing clots in their hearts. These clots can travel elsewhere in the body, significantly worsening prognosis in affected cats. The standard treatment to help prevent clots is clopidogrel (Plavix). Unfortunately, some cats appear resistant to this life-saving medication.
