Looking For Healthy DNA

The Cornell Veterinary

Biobank and the Cornell Feline Health Center need DNA from healthy cats 10 years or older.

The researchers want to compare DNA from ill cats to DNA from healthy cats, so they may learn to better diagnose and treat diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, renal disease, and diabetes.

Testing is performed at Cornell, and obtaining DNA only requires a small blood sample. This sampling is coordinated with a variety of examinations, including an echocardiogram, orthopedic examination, blood pressure check, and urinalysis.

If traveling is an issue, you may still help, if your veterinarian is willing. The BioBank will provide kits to your veterinarian.

They also need cats with: kidney disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, lymphoma, hip dysplasia, obesity, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, resorptive lesions, and periodontitis.
