Pyothorax, an infectious process that leads to the accumulation of septic fluid (pus) in the chest cavity, is an uncommon but serious problem in cats. Most cases are due to trauma (primarily bite wounds) that leads to (usually) bacterial infection, but inhaled pathogens can also cause this problem.
