Crystalluria in Cats

Crystalluria refers to solid mineral particles in urine. For experienced cat owners, a report of crystals found in their cat’s urine sample can cause panic because if they coalesce into calculi (stones), this can result in obstruction of the urinary tract.
If this obstruction occurs in the urethra, which connects the urinary bladder to the external genitalia, this constitutes a potentially life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate veterinary intervention.
